Turkmen specialists from Türkmennebitgeofizika conducted hydro-gas-dynamic research in 30 oil wells to understand the extent to which the water saturation level in reservoirs affects oil production efficiency. The results revealed that wells with high water content in the upper layers exhibited lower effectiveness.

To address this issue, the country’s fuel and energy complex tasked scientists with eliminating water formations within wells. After reaching a consensus, specialists implemented a method that yielded noticeable results in oil production, as reported by the Nebit-gaz newspaper.

Narrowing the pipes in the studied wells, including pump-compressor wells, led to a significant reduction in the water level in the upper layers. This approach helped minimize the consequences of one of the most common problems in the energy sector – the waterlogging of oil wells.

In global practice, when water appears in pumped oil, operations are immediately halted to identify the source of water intrusion and methods of water isolation. This results in production delays and substantial expenses. However, the innovative method of combining pressure in wells while reducing the pipe diameter lowers the water level during oil pumping without a complete work stoppage and with reduced costs.
