Liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have crossed Afghanistan and reached the border with Pakistan, reports the Pakistani edition of Arab news.
21 trucks with LNG tanks arrived at the Torkham border crossing. Of these, nine were allowed into Pakistani territory. Six tanks arrived from Uzbekistan and three from Turkmenistan. The rest are waiting for the declaration to be filled in at the customs point.
Pakistan’s plans to import liquefied natural gas from Turkmenistan became known in December 2022.
At that time, there were concerns about the safety of LNG transportation through Afghanistan. It was agreed that the Afghan authorities would have to provide security and logistics, in particular, tractors that would drive tankers between borders.
At the same time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan showed interest in the supply of Turkmen liquefied gas by tankers through the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, and then to Turkey and further to Europe.
