Provincial Taskforce for Polio Eradication meets with Health Minister and Chiefv Secretary in the chair

More than 71000 polio workers would take part in the campaign across the province.

Karachi: The week-long anti-polio drive is being launched in Sindh from Monday, June 7 to June 13, during which 9.4 million children will be administered polio drops in all 30 districts of the province.

The Provincial Taskforce for Polio Eradication held its meeting at the Sindh Secretariat on Saturday with Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah and Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho in the chair to review the arrangements.

The meeting was attended by Health Secretary Dr. Kazim Jatoi, all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, PPHI, WHO, EOC representatives and other officials.

The meeting was informed by the Health Department officials that the concerned authorities have held pre-campaign meetings in 30 districts of the province regarding the anti-polio drive and the training of polio workers has been completed and all polio workers have been provided with facemasks, PPEs and other necessary facilities while all the polio workers have also been informed about the measures to prevent heat stroke.

Chief Secretary and the Minister of Health directed all the Deputy Commissioners to run the polio campaign in their respective districts to achieve 100% targets.

Chief Secretary said that people should cooperate with polio workers and get the children up to five years of age vaccinated.

The Home Department should ensure security arrangements during the polio campaign, he directed.

Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho said that the role of social mobilizers and influencers should be made more effective to persuade parents who refuse polio drops. He appealed to all the parents to vaccinate their children from birth to 5 years of age.

More than 71000 polio workers would take part in the campaign across the province.

The representatives of WHO and National Emergency Operations Center (EOC) participated in the meeting through video link appreciated the performance of Sindh government in the polio campaign and assured their full cooperation. (PR)
