Engineering and Technology Authority is needed to look after the organizations for Emerging Trends in Engineering Technology

First 3-day Multidisciplinary International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering Technology begins at Benazir Bhutto University of Technology & Skill Development, Khairpur

The 3-day First Multidisciplinary International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering Technology (IMCEET-2023) organized by the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology & Skill Development, Khairpur Mirs in collaboration with Sindh Higher Education Commission (Sindh HEC) and MUET SZAB Campus, Khairpur Mirs started on Tuesday.

Former Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who inaugurated the conference, in his address said that skill development education is very important for the youth of Sindh, as well as for the youth of Khairpur.

“50 years ago there was free education, boarding and Lodging when the Khairpur had a status of State,” he recalled.

Qaim Ali Shah said that unemployment is a big issue in Sindh and Pakistan and it was very difficult to cope it, but the government, under the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, provided domestic as well as foreign scholarships to the youth to educate them and meet the challenges.

He said that despite the limited resources the PPP government had ensured free education up to matriculation.

Former Chief Minister said that establishing a Technical University was a difficult task, but he executed the decision and added that there was no such university in the other provinces.

He said that then GOC of Pano Aqil had told him to establish a technical university there, but he preferred to establish it in Khairpur to promote the Technical and Skill education in this district.

He said that he will try to get more funds allocated in coming budget for the promotion of the technical education.

Former CM emphasized that in the contemporary world, there is a dire need for research which is the key to innovations and technologies.

“The world is rapidly heading towards technology, with innovations emerging day by day, we need to customize our academic research to vie with the technology-driven competitive world.”

Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, Chairman National Technology Council (NTC) while addressing the conference said that there should be a Pakistan Engineering and Technology Authority to look after the PEC, NTC and NAVTTC for Emerging Trends in Engineering Technology.

He said that there used to a trunk call technology which now emerged in an IT technology. There was drone technology and now there ChatGPt has come. “All these kind of things developed by the engineering technologists. The emerging trends have been introduced by the Engineering Technology.”

Khairpur-Emerging-Technologies-Conference-Sindh-Courier-1He said that renewable energy, and even the transport were the gifts of the engineering and technology. “Scientists are the big brains to invent the things.”

He said that there was a need to work on the Government Technical College system and these colleges need funds and industrial trainings.

He said that NTC is focusing upon quality and raising standard of curriculum and also upon curriculum building, course learning and providing face to face time to every student.

He said that there was a NTC Act 2020 which was not approved by the assembly.

He suggested that there should be an engineering alliance under the Washington Accord for accrediting engineering degree program. “Malaysia and New Zealand have applied for such accord.”

“The engineers should do engineering, and technologists do technology, so there was a need of correction of system,” he concluded.

Dr. Taha Hussain, Vice Chancellor of the MUET University Jamshoro said that there was a much lacking in technological side in term of IT and other sectors. “This is an age of Artificial Intelligence and the world is using 6-G, but we are still using 3G and 4G, so how we will compete the world.”

Khairpur-ConferenceHe said that Multidisciplinary International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering Technology should be result-oriented to compete the world which was more advanced than Pakistan.

He said that in terms of technology we are lagging behind.

Angappa Gunasekaran, Professor of Operations Management, School of Business Administration, Penn State Harrisburg in his video message said that Technology plays an important role in revolutionizing of engineering and emphasized upon the multiple disciplinary approach like chatGPt. He said that world looks forward on energy economic to stable their countries, besides focusing upon robotic engineering.

Fatihah Shuja, Professor, University of Kebangsaan Malaysia presented the case study on Green Engineering approach for organic effluent and waste management in Malaysia.

Vice Chancellor of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology & Skill Development, Khairpur Mirs Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar said that this is a first ever Technical University in Sindh.

Professor Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar said that it was the first time that we have achieved this milestone to unite the researchers on this platform to present their scholarly work which would help our students and emerging researchers, paving the way for new dimensions in the field of research and technology.

Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar further said that as the world is fast heading towards science and technology, dedicating our expertise to research is the key to its foundation.

The scholars from Pakistan and different countries including the US, China, Turkey and Malaysia will present over 106 research papers during three days of conference.

Dr. Aftab Ahmed Soomro, the Chair of the IMCEET-23 thanked all the participants and sponsors who made the conference possible, adding that it was the team work of the university to manage and organize the event.

Professor Dr. Abdul Sami Qureshi, the fifth Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Campus Khairpur, also spoke.

Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor Begum Nusrat Bhutto Woman University Sukkur Prof. Dr. Tehmina Mangan, Syed Asad Ali Shah Jillani, Engr. Prof. Dr. Madad Ali Shah and others were present.
