Kazakhstan is ready to transfer its 22 airports of the country under the management of European investors, stated Marat Karabayev, the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, at the ongoing EU-Central Asia Transport Investment Forum in Brussels, TASS reports.
The head of the department noted that the largest airports in the country, Astana and Almaty, are already managed by foreign holdings. “We are ready to transfer the remaining 22 airports of Kazakhstan to the private sector under the management of European investors. There is great potential for becoming a transit hub between Asia and Europe,” said Karabayev.

The authorities of Kazakhstan are prepared to hand over the management of the Aktau and Kuryk ports on the Caspian Sea coast to European companies, with the possibility of subsequent privatization, Karabayev indicated. “We propose signing an agreement between the participants of the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route – ed. TASS) and the European Union for the development of this route,” the minister said.

In addition, he suggested organizing a large investment forum in Astana in September of this year between the European Union and Kazakhstan for partnership in the transport sector.
