Sindh Government hands over Karachi’s two rehabilitation centers to Anti-Narcotics Force.

Sindh Government and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Monday signed an agreement to run two drug rehabilitation centers established in Karachi.
Dr. Shereen Mustafa Secretary Social Welfare Department Sindh and Lt Col Anwar Hussain Joint Director ANF signed the agreement in presence of Minister Social Welfare Department Sajid Jokhio and Brig. Viqar Rizvi, Force Commander, ANF Sindh.
As per the agreement Drug Rehabilitation Center being established at Leprosy KMC hospital Manghopir and Youth development Center at Dilboth Goth, Malir will be managed by the ANF.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Sindh Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput said that rehabilitation centers for drug addicts will be established throughout Sindh and these institutions will be run under public-private partnership.
He said this while presiding over an important meeting regarding the establishment of a center for the rehabilitation of drug addicts in Sindh. Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Secretary School Education Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Secretary Social Welfare Department Dr. Shereen Mustafa, DG Public Private Partnership Assad Zamin and representatives of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) participated in the meeting.
It was decided that rehabilitation centers for drug addicts will be established in the province, which will be run under public-private partnership.
Chief Secretary said that provincial government will provide funds, building and other facilities and the private party will manage the drug rehabilitation center as per international practices. “The government will establish the center and a well-reputed private partner will run it”.
Sohail Rajput directed Director General Private Partnership Assad Zamin to prepare all the necessary documents for the purpose. He said private institutions for the partnership would be provided through a competitive bidding process.
Sindh Chief Secretary further said that an anti-drug campaign will be launched on media and social media to aware masses. He further stated that all other private drug rehabilitation centers of the province will be regulated through the Sindh Healthcare Commission.
IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon said that police are taking action against drug dealers along with other agencies in the province; all the SSPs of the province have been given the task of taking action against drug dealers. He further said that a SSP of a district has been given a certificate of appreciation for action against drug dealers while a senior officer is facing department enquiry in this regard. (PR)
