2-Day Regional Bootcamp for Neurosurgery Residents held

The 2-day Regional Bootcamp for Neurosurgery Residents, organized by Department of Neurosurgery, Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), concluded on Sunday January 14, 2024.

Over 100 faculty members and trainees from across the country attended the bootcamp.

Gambat-1-Sindh-CourierDr. Amjad Qureshi Head of Department, Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences said that the concept of neurosurgery boot camps is not a new, as it is now an integral part of the training curriculum in the Western World.

He said that the purpose of bootcamp was to equip junior trainees with the basic knowledge and skills they can later build on during their residency.

Gambat-2-Sindh-CourierProf. Tariq Salahuddin said that a major highlight of the bootcamp was training sessions for residents belonging to upper Sindh by senior neurosurgery faculty from across the country that will help in improving the training quality of regional neurosurgeons.

Prof. Dr. Tariq Salahuddin, Prof. Ahmed Ali Shah Prof. Dr. Riaz Raja, Prof. Dr. Syed Ather Enam, Prof. Dr. Aneela Darbar, Dr. Manzoor Hussain, Dr. Najam Saqib, Dr. Billal Khan Afridi, Dr. Saad Akhtar, Dr. Hamid Shaikh, Dr. Saqib Bakhshi, Dr. Mumtaz Narejo, Dr. Mukhtiar Lakho and other renowned Neurosurgeons imparted training to the trainees using 3D printed skulls and spine models, cadaveric-free models from Upsurgeon (Italy) using high speed drills, HD microscopes and Brain Lab Modular OR.

Gambat-4-Sindh-CourierDr. Raheem Bux Bhatti director Gambat Institute of Medical Science, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ali Shah, visiting Professor at the Aga Khan University, Karachi, and Dr. Amjad Qureshi addressing the conclusion ceremony of the bootcamp urged the trainees to earn a good reputation for them and their institutions in the field of surgery and pledge to serve needy and poor patients.

They hoped that the trainees will spend their lives serving humanity. They also asked the specialized doctors getting training abroad to return Pakistan to serve the people. The guest doctors were honored with shields and awards.
