The plans are afoot to setup Sindh Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency (SEECA) so that the electrical appliances and equipment made in the province can be manufactured in accordance with the international standards of energy saving.

In a meeting with World Bank Country Director and other officials on Sunday at his department’s office, Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh said that the provincial government has geared up efforts for establishing the SEECA.

Imtiaz Shaikh said that one unit of electricity can be saved by spending many times less than the cost of generating one unit of energy, so it is the priority of the government of Sindh to manufacture electrical appliances and equipment in the province in accordance with international standards to save energy and capital from being wasted.

“As per National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority Act 2016 the formation process of Sindh Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency (SEECA) in the province is in full swing,” he said adding that SEECA would conduct energy audit of all public sector buildings in the province and ensure that energy efficient devices are be installed in all these buildings in accordance with international standards so as to save a lot of electricity.

Minister said that under SEECA, old energy equipment of all industries of the province would be replaced with energy efficient equipment.

The manufacturing of household electrical appliances and equipment in the province will also be ensured in accordance with international standards of energy efficiency. This will enable domestic consumers to get devices with better performance and lower the power consumption. “The consumers will get bills based on lesser units of electricity which will also reduce the burden of electricity bills on consumers. The government will ensure that standard electrical equipment and devices are easily available in the market,” Imtiaz Shaikh told the WB delegation.

The meeting was attended also by Secretary Energy Sindh Abu Bakar Madani and other officials. (PR)
