Sukkur district gets 16 Marriage Registrars for registration of marriages under the Hindu Marriage Act 2018

  • SHRC will ensure registration of marriage registrars in other districts of Sindh prioritizing the districts with larger population of the religious minorities

For the first time in the history of Sindh, under the Hindus Marriage Act 2018, 16 marriage registrars have been registered who will be able to register the marriages of Hindu and Sikh community of District Sukkur.

In a ceremony organized by Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) at Sukkur District, marriage registrars were registered and awarded certificates. This gathering honored those individuals who played a crucial role in ensuring the legal recognition of marriages within the Hindu and Sikh community, in accordance with the Hindus Marriage Amendment Act, 2018.

The event took place at SHRC Sukkur office where SHRC Board Member Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani and Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Raja Mohammad Bakhsh Deharejo awarded certificates to the participants.

The pundits from the minority communities are registered as marriage registrars under Sindh Hindus Marriage Act, 2018. Registration of marriage registrars in Sukkur comes across as a crucial step to ensure the registration of marriages of the religious minorities in Sindh that is home to a large population of the Hindu community.

Board Member on this occasion shared that after Sukkur, SHRC will ensure registration of marriage registrars in other districts of Sindh as well – while prioritizing the districts with larger population of the religious minorities. He added that the significant legislation such as Sindh Hindus Marriage Act, 2018 aimed at protecting the fundamental rights of the religious minorities required efficient implementation mechanisms and the Commission is committed to ensuring the same.

The Hindu Marriage Amendment Act 2018 marked a significant milestone in providing a framework for legal marriage within the Hindu community, and the certified marriage registrars will be instrumental in upholding these legal standards. By ensuring that marriages are registered and recognized, they will help protect the rights and interests of the minorities. (PR)
