Israel is planning to build an underground ‘anti-tunnel wall’ near the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, according to Israeli media.

Israeli Army Radio reported that the wall is planned to be built on the Philadelphi Route following the end of the ongoing war on Gaza.

According to the broadcaster, an Israeli delegation has already traveled to Egypt for talks on the construction of the wall.

“The Egyptians understand Israel’s security need for this,” the radio said, citing an Israeli security official.

Anadolu News Agency reported that there was “no immediate comment from Egypt on the Israeli report.”

The Philadelphi Route is a narrow strip of land situated within the territory of Gaza, established in 1979 as a buffer zone controlled by Israeli occupation forces, along the border between the besieged enclave and Egypt.

However, the channel explained that Egypt repeatedly denied the presence of underground tunnels in the border area with Gaza.

Israel launched air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip on October 7. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 18,800 Palestinians have been killed and more than 51,000 wounded since then. Palestinian and international estimates say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
