As part of the World Poetry Movement‘s (WPM) solidarity activities with Palestine, the World Poetry Movement – Egypt is conducting an evening (online) entitled Palestine is Our Poem.

The evening will be broadcast live, via the Zoom and Facebook applications, and will begin at six PM, Friday (Cairo time), February 9, 2024

hanan-620x388-1The WPM National Coordinator – Egypt, Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, will welcome the attendees, and then he will introduce the evening’s guest, the poetess and critic Dr. Hanan Awwad, to read her first poem of the evening.

Between the evening’s segments, the creative voice Darine Ammar will perform three of her Palestinian folk songs, accompanied by the musician Ghassan Arif, while the poetess Dima Mahmoud reads selections of poems she translated of the Palestinian-American poetess Naomi Shihab Nye, and other poems by Jack Hershman translated by the Palestinian poet Ali Abu Khattab, published in (The AsiaN) in the anniversary of the late American poet of resistance.

Dr. Hanan Awwad about will talk about her most recent book (Woman is a symbol and an issue. The image of women in Palestinian Resistance Literature), which she dedicated to the great, patient, resilient Palestinian woman, with her dress embroidered with henna, a dedication and holding the blood of the martyr, our banners, and to the martyrs of the fighting word and their immortal texts.”

The evening will be broadcast live, via the Zoom and Facebook applications, and will begin at six PM, Friday (Cairo time), February 9, 2024. The evening comes in response to the call of the World Poetry Movement (WPM) at its recent meeting in the presence of its General Coordinator, the Colombian poet Fernando Rendón, to continue the members’ activity in support of the Palestinian right in the face of the genocide that Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and the occupied cities of Palestine where they are exposed to the forces of the Israeli occupation army and its settlers.
