My heartbeat grew quieter, the world felt far away,
I gave in to the pain I’d been fighting every day.
Meerab Noor
Hailing from Gujrat, Meerab Noor, born on 22 September 2007, is a young Pakistani writer with a deep fascination for words, people and the thoughts people are unable to express. As a pre-medico, she has learned to look at life through the eyes of both science and curiosity, but writing has given her a different way of looking at the surroundings. Meerab is deeply intrigued by the idea of being merely a “human”, the way people think, feel, hide, change, remember, and carry entire stories within themselves is really amusing. She is really observant by nature, often noticing the smallest details, a glance, a pause, a period, an expression, a word left unsaid, and afterwards wondering “why?” She has always felt comfortable with words, drawn to their ability to hold emotions that are sometimes difficult to explain. For her, writing is not about having all the answers, it is about asking better questions, and finding meaning in the void that people are unable to describe. What inspires her to write is the thought that the things left unspoken are the ones that deserve to be heard the most. Having started her literary journey, Meerab hopes to continue writing, reading, and discovering a voice that becomes the voice of the people who can’t express what they feel and notice.
A SMILE BEFORE SILENCE
The feeling of depression and emptiness every time I’m awake,
Got tons of people around, but still nobody to say.
They see my behavior and blame me for that,
Why don’t they understand?
I’m not mad, I’m just sad.
One night, I went out of the house to fly,
To leave all my worries somewhere in the sky.
But the sky felt distant, and the night felt cold,
So I stood by the water, with stories left untold.
The water embraced me, pulling me deep,
As I heard their laughter, a last memory to keep.
Laughter of my family and friends,
I couldn’t do anything because
Everything was coming to an end.
I closed my eyes and recalled all the memories,
Flashbacks going through my head
Every moment, every story.
Everything around me started getting darker, as I fell deeper and deeper,
I wasn’t crying this time
Even though i know I’m a weeper.
My breathing grew heavy, my movements grew slow,
i knew i was fading, so I smiled,
That was the last thing I could do
My heartbeat grew quieter, the world felt far away,
I gave in to the pain I’d been fighting every day.
