INTIMATIONS OF MORTALITY
With eyes which feel sore
And body losing connect
With the mind
The powers above
Among themselves converse
Our poet is losing the power
To manage the surge.
We restricted the flow of bounties
To the extent he felt impoverished
Yet it goes to his credit
Not for a moment he lost
Sight of his commitment
To the Muse
Nor to our commands
He ever did refuse.
His presence felt like flowers
Light of feet like butterflies
He went on writing
In gratefulness to his God
Never undue favours
He had sought
Was he a man or a presence
Or the essence of a lofty thought.
We see him going for a walk
And with birds and animals
And insects, lively talk
Fields he did love
And forests adore
Cuckoos, kathbiralis*
Peacocks all the more
His love spreads from shore to shore
Ages he did represent in thought
The ages to come
Immaculately wrought
Serbia listened to his soul
Dedicated to him their Poets’ Rock
Before time takes a turn
And causes a block
Thy poet thanks thee and thy godly flock.
