Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh orders formation of a committee to prepare report on assets and liabilities of HESCO and SEPCO

Karachi, Sindh

Sindh Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh presided over a meeting on Tuesday March 28, 2023 to discuss the matters related to devolution of Power Companies to the provinces by the federal government.

The federal government has decided to devolve the power companies under the 18th amendment of the Constitution. Under the plan, Hyderabad Electric Power Company (HESCO) and Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) will be handed over to Sindh.

The meeting discussed in detail a proposal to run the two companies under the Public Private Partnership.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Imtiaz Sheikh said that before taking over the HESCO and SEPCO, a committee should be constituted for preparing a detailed report about the assets, profit and losses of the two companies. “Under the 18th constitutional amendment these companies are the property of the province however the report on their assets and liabilities would help the provincial government for proper planning to run them in a way to provide maximum relief to the masses,” he said.

Secretary of Energy Department, Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of HESCO and SEPCO, Member NEPRA Sindh and others attended the meeting. (PR)
