Sindh government is working on a plan to start a Master’s degree program for teacher’s trainers in collaboration with Oxford University and a non-government organization, while the draft proposal to start licensing of teachers in Sindh will be put before the Cabinet after legal consultation.

This transpired at the International Teachers’ Conference, held at the Government Elementary College of Education Karachi on Friday.

The objective of the conference was to provide an opportunity for healthy discussion and suggestions for further improvement of the teacher training sector.

Sardar-Shah-Education-Sindh-Courier-1It was informed that Sindh government is working on a plan to start a Master’s degree program for teacher’s trainers in collaboration with Oxford University and social organization ‘Durbeen’, and in this regard, consultation with all stakeholders has also been started.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, who attended the conference, said that the problem of shortage of teachers in government schools has been solved however there is a need to improve the quality and training of newly recruited teachers.

He said that it is our duty to fulfill the responsibility of free education as per the constitution in a better way, but to achieve this we needs the help of civil society and other stakeholders.

Sardar-Shah-Education-Sindh-Courier-2Sardar Shah thanked the representatives of Oxford University and Durbeen organization and said that the support and guidance in the Master’s degree program for teacher trainers will further improve this profession.

He said that many problems regarding curriculum in Sindh have been resolved. “The curriculum of Sindh has been compiled on the basis of inclusivity, life skill base, pluralism. A program has been started to make teachers training institutes across Sindh more active,” he said.

Sindh Education Minister said that the draft to start licensing of teachers in Sindh will be put before the Cabinet after legal consultation. “A teacher’s license will be a sign of a teacher’s professional quality and importance like other professions.”

“The teachers will also be able to get a legal protection after the licenses,” he added.

In the dialogue session, the need for training of teachers according to modern methods was emphasized for the development of education. (PR)
