Two-day 3rd Khairpur Literature Festival kicked off Saturday by Deputy Commissioner Khairpur at Gymkhana Club Khairpur. The festival was jointly inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Sharjeel Noor Channa and Social Activist Lal Bakhsh Mangi.

Writers and social activists expressing their views during the opening ceremony of the Literature Festival said that fear of unnecessary criticism should not stop the work of organizing literary activities because it helps language, books and healthy activities.

Khairpur-Festival-Sindh-Courier-1Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Sharjeel Noor Chana in his address said that this is an exciting activity for him and for lovers of literature. “This is the best opportunity to discuss social issues and literary trends,” he added.

DC said that People of the new age are moving away from research activities, so it is better to hold festivals to support the sustainability and positive ideas of the people.

Khairpur-Festival-Sindh-Courier-2Noted poet Adal Soomro said that it is a matter of great pleasure that literary festival is being held in Khairpur. “Youth need to be encouraged and this tradition is strengthened through these festivals.”

Due to literary festivals, the dying trend of reading books has been revived, he said adding that the paths of the youth in the literary and creative world are restored through festivals.

“Literary festivals are held all over the world and this caravan should continue without being afraid of unnecessary criticism and should not stop the work of organizing literary activities because it helps language, books and healthy activities.”

Social leader and writer Lal Bakhsh Mangi said that these types of programs are very important for the new generation and the people of Khairpur.

Special guest Javaid Mirani said that today’s youth should come to these literary fairs and follow their own path.

The in-charge of Sindh Human Rights Cell, Iqbal Detho, said that these kinds of fairs are not idle activities but they are a great effort to bring betterment in the society.

Professor of Shah Abdul Latif University Dr. Taj Lashari said that such festivals are attempt to survive language, literature and culture.

“It is very important that young people get the opportunity to listen, speak and present their creativity.”

Khairpur-Festival-Sindh-Courier-3Dr. Khadim Dahoot of SEWA Development Trust said that academic and literary events are like oxygen for any society. “Bringing young people to creative activities is the best thing. Conducting such programs without any government patronage is highly commendable.”

After the opening ceremony, Sufi artists Salamat Sohrab Faqir and Rajab Sohrab Faqir sung the poetry of Sufi poets.

After the music session, there was a session to pay tribute to the personalities of Khairpur, Moula Bakhsh Larik, Justice Ali Aslam Jafferi, poet and journalist Mansoor Mirani and Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui, the founder of IBA Sukkur.

Mumtaz Bukhari, Advocate Habib-ur-Rehman Sheikh, and Ustad Ghulam Rasool Buriro spoke on the late personalities and their prominent works.

A discussion about environmental destruction and its effects on Sindh was also held in which Prof. Taj Lashari and others shared their views.

After that, the launching ceremony of books authored by Mehran Engineering University Professor Dr. Mujeeb Iqbal Soomro, young poet Deedar Masoom and Professor Hasan Shaikh’s was held.

At the end, a mushaira was held in which a large number of poets from Khairpur and other cities presented poetry and received applause.
