End of the Marathon — Cucumber

A Poem from Azerbaijan

The ballot box is very transparent

The elections are non-transparent

Bahtiyar Hidayet, a poet from Azerbaijan, shares his short poem

Bahtiyar Hidayet-Sindh CourierBahtiyar Hidayet, born in 1974 in the Gazakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan, graduated from university in 1995 and has been working as a history teacher since 1998. Wrote poetry since high school and has 4 poetry books published in Azerbaijan.

End of the Marathon — Cucumber

A boring election marathon

As if it were a football match whose score I already know

I am watching its replay

If I had the chance, into that ballot box

I would drop a red card

Before the election, the candidates’ photos

Are displayed on a large board

Do you know what it resembles?

The photos on a board saying

“They are wanted by the police”

But here it is necessary to write:

“They are wanted by the people”

The ballot box is very transparent

The elections are non-transparent

That box is a very useful box

After the elections

In that box

One can make good pickled cucumbers

For cheap vodka

It would be a good snack.

P.S.

At the end of the first marathon

There was the good news of “Victory”

But at the end of the election marathon — cucumber

We are still 2500 years behind modernity.
