Agitators warn of staging sit-in outside IGP Sindh office in Karachi if the killers were not arrested

The local journalists, writers, rights activists and members of civil society, under the banner of Journalists, Writers and Civil Society for Truth & Peace (JWC), organized a protest rally to press the government for arresting the killers of Professor Ajmal Sawand and bringing an end to tribal clashes in Sindh province.

The participants of rally, led by JWC leaders Zulfiquar Khaskheli and Wali Muhammd Chandio, carried placards and banners inscribed with the demands and pictures of Professor Ajmal Sawand. They chanted slogans of ‘Justice for Professor Ajmal Sawand’, arresting his killers and stopping tribal clashes in Sindh especially in riverine areas of province.

Ajmal Sawand, a professor at Sukkur IBA University, was shot dead near Kandhkot in first week of April.

Zulfiquar Khashkeli said that they are recording their protest since last month for arrest of Professor Ajmal Sawand and against tribal clashes but provincial government and the police failed to arrest killer of late Ajmal Sawand.

Khashkeli said that the police have failed to arrest the killers and accused the police of extra Judicial murder of social activist Sadam Lashari.

Wali Muhammad Chandio said that killing of Professor Ajmal Sawand is protecting the tribal system, and added that worst law and order situation prevails in Kandhkot, Kahmore, and Jacobabad and there is need of Army operation but Sindh government is not starting operation through army.

He said that in Sindh province more than 80 people were kidnapped by dacoits within 4 months, police officials were martyred by dacoits’ attacks in Kandhkot-Kashmore but government keeps mum.

President Press Club Dadu Sabir Bhand said that due to worst law and order situation, 6 people were killed last month in court premises and in front of court gate which is failure of law enforcement agencies. He said that three litigants who were in police custody were killed by armed men in Mehar court premises, a woman who had come for divorce in Dokari court was killed by husband, another murder happened in Karachi court premises and five days ago a man was killed by armed men in front of Mehar court but concerned law enforce agencies failed to stop killing.

Ali Jamali, a representative of another organization, said that no one is getting is justice in Sindh.

Ghazi Khan Jamali, Artist Rasheed Charan, Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ghulam Qadir Solangi, JSQM local leader Niaz Channa, Child Rights Committee representatives Niaz Chandio, Sajid Mastoi, LHW Shahnaz Soomro and people from different walks of life addressed the rally and passed resolution and warned of staging sit-in in front of IGP Sindh office if killers of Prof. Ajmal Sawand were not arrested.
