Private sector granted space at Gharo Special Economic Zone to establish wood-tile industry investing Rs.28 billion

The Committee of Special Economic Zone Authority was informed on Thursday that the development work at Naushehro Feroze Economic Zone has been delayed by the developer.

Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, who presided over the meeting, ordered to issue show cause notice to the developer of Naushehro Feroze Economic Zone.

It was further informed that 99% work of Khairpur Economic Zone has been completed and now an effluent treatment plant is being set up there for which tender has been issued.

Briefing the meeting regarding creation of Special Economic Zone in Gharo, the Secretary Investment said that the private sector would set up wood-tile industry on 53 acres in Gharo and Rs.28 billion would be invested in this economic zone.

The meeting approved the recommendation of the private sector to have a special economic zone in Gharo. The meeting also approved to issue advertisement for recruitment of Chief Executive Officer of Economic Zone Authority. The Chief Executive Officer will be recruited for a period of 3 years.

Chief Secretary Sindh said that more industrial zones will be set up in Karachi and for this Deputy Commissioner of Malir, Keamari and West have been directed to identify land for this purpose. He further said that special economic zones and industries would create employment opportunities in the province.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Finance Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Investment Bilal Ahmed Memon, Secretary Planning Faisal Ahmed Uqeeli, Secretary Industries Amir Khurshid, Secretary Works and Services Imran Atta Soomro and other members of the Committee. (PR)
