Children’s voice should be included in policy and plan on climate change. Activities held in Dadu district for creating awareness on child rights

Child protection authority of Dadu district of Sindh, arranged two activities on awareness rising on child rights on Tuesday July 23, 2024.
First activity was arranged at Sujag Sansar Organization (SSO) Office and other was arranged at Chinjnai village of Teshil Johi District Dadu. Children and parents participated in the activities.
Speaking on the occasion Sayed Hidayatullah Shah Deputy Director Child Protection Authority Dadu said that children have right to education, health and other services. He said that child labor, child marriages and corporal punishment are harmful practices against children.
Mashooque Birahmani, CEO, SSO said that children have right to express their opinion but unfortunately almost all decisions concerning children are taken by their elders mostly without getting the opinion of children. He said that if children are respected, they will return the respect to the society. But if violence is committed against children how we expect them to be peaceful and productive members of the society.
Ms. Aaman Soomro said that violence and discrimination against girl children’s rights is more widespread than boys. She added that in some cases, education of boys is continued but in majority cases girl’s education stopped when they attain adolescence.

Shahzad Ali Panhwer said that climate change is affecting child rights as due to climate change induced events like floods and heat waves, children education is disrupted and their health is also affected. He added that children’s voice should be included in policy and plan on climate change.
The pamphlets in Sindhi language on child rights were distributed among children and parents.
At the end of the activities tree saplings were distributed among children to plant at their homes and schools. (PR)
