Sindh Agriculture University celebrates World Women’s Day; organizes seminar titled “Break the bias”

Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, in collaboration with Dua Foundation, has established first Dragon Fruit Experimental Nursery at its Latif Farm. The nursery will be supervised by experts from the Directorate of Farms and Horticulture Department of Sindh Agriculture University, while PhD and Masters Students will conduct research work.

Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice Chancellor, and Nadeem-Ur-Rehman Memon, Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad inaugurated the Dragon Fruit Experimental Nursery on Tuesday.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri said that the experts of the university are conducting research on pure seeds with those crops and fruits that were earlier not cultivated in Sindh according to the weather and climate. He said that after the successful research, Sindh Agriculture University would provide assistance to the farmers in growing dragon fruit.

SAU-Dragon-Fruit-Sindh-Courier-2Commissioner Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon said that experts of the university were not only providing academic and research services but were also assisting the government in conducting timely research on livestock, crops, soil, water, and other issues including the guidance of farmers.

Muhammad Amir Khan Chairman Dua Foundation said that the demand for dragon fruit is very high in the country and the success of this project will encourage other farmers.

Dr. Noor-un-Nisa Memon, focal person of the project at Sindh Agriculture University said there is quality nutrition in dragon fruit, and it is an expensive fruit that is in demand not only in the country but also in the international market.

Dr. Fayyaz Alam, General Secretary, Dua Foundation, Dr. Qamaruddin Chachar, Dean, Faculty of Crop Production, Dr. Syed Ghiyasuddin Shah Rashidi Dean, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Dr. Mujahid Leghari, Chairman High Power Farms Committee, Dr. Zahoor Soomro, Ms. Surhan Aijaz Abro, Assistant Commissioner Hyderabad Rural, and others attended the event.

Women’s Day Event

Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University, said that economic development in Sindh was still incomplete due to the lack of importance given to women in various fields.

He was addressing on the occasion of World Women’s Day at a seminar on “Break the bias” organized by Sindh Agriculture University in the collaboration with Rozan Islamabad, Ministry of Women’s Rights and Women Engineers Forum

SAU-Women'sDay-Sindh-Courier-2Dr. Fateh Marri said that in developed countries women play an equal role in development along with leading men, but here they are considered as second class citizens, he said that educational institutions can play a big role in this, he said that educated women are performing in various fields including medical, engineering, banking and business, however, in the field of agriculture, women have been with their male family members from the very beginning.

He said that due to prejudice against women, they are missing in different fields and half of the country’s population could not contribute to the development of the country,

Dr. Jan Muhammad Marri, Pro-Vice Chancellor Sub Campus Umerkot said that by defeating the negative mindset, women can play an important role in the educational, family, and economic development of the society, women should be welcomed with respect and honor in all fields.

SAU-Women'sDay-Sindh-Courier-1Rozan Islamabad leader Rubina Chandio said that women can play important role in different fields like men, women should not be considered as weak or insignificant creatures.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar said that Sindh Agriculture University is providing a safe academic environment to female students and providing them balanced opportunities for various forums, sports, and healthy activities.

Prof. Ms. Mumtaz Bhatti, Dr. Anila Memon, Amber Sanam Leghari, Dr. Abdullah Sethar, Juma Khan Bajkani, Madeeha Waheed, Fozia Yasmeen, and others also addressed the event. (PR)
