Khairpur: The Department of Neurospine Surgery of Khairpur Medical College inked a history in the field of a Medical Science in Sindh with a successful rare Spinal Cord Conus Medullaris Lesion Surgery of a 25-year old patient.

The surgery was performed recently by Associate Professor Dr. Mukhtiar Ali Lakho, Head of the Department of Neurospine Surgery.

Dr. Lakho said that a patient with a complaint of Conus Medullary Syndrome was attended by his department. After the investigations of the patient, he and his team conducted the Spine Surgery. “Earlier the patients from Civil Hospital Khairpur used to be referred to Karachi because of the lack of Facilities,” he told.

Spinal Cord Surgery - Sindh Courier-1He said that Neurosurgery department of the Khairpur Medical College in Civil Hospital Khairpur is doing appreciable services and managing the emergencies of the fatal accidents.

Dr. Mukhtiar Lakho said that Brain Tumor Surgery has also been launched at Civil Hospital Khairpur and added that brain and spine surgeries are being performed by the Neurospine surgery department.

“Despite the limited sources, department was trying to perform well to gain the trust of the People of the Khairpur”.

He said that Prof: Dr. Asadullah Mahar, Principal of the KMC Khairpur has extended full support to ensure the medical facilities in Civil Hospital Khairpur. “He has succeeded in getting a Computed Tomography Scanning Machine (CT scan) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Machine (MRI)”.

Spinal Cord Surgery - Sindh Courier-2He said that Pakistan Medical Council team in a recent visit had given KMC the status of A-Category. “The credit for this success goes to academic as well as administrative staff of the KMC”.

Dr. Lakho told that the Civil Society and political stakeholders of the Khairpur are extending cooperation to the administration of the college and Civil Hospital Khairpur to make it an exemplary medical-facilities providing institute in Pakistan.
