Sindh United Party (SUP) has announced embarking on Long March from Sukkur to Karachi to lodge protest against unprecedented inflation, corruption and the bad governance in Sindh.

“The Long March will start from Sukkur on Feb 15 via National Highway, Indus Highway and Motorway and the participants of month-long journey by foot will arrive in Karachi on March 19 to lodge protest against unprecedented inflation, corruption and bad governance,” Sayed Zain Shah, President SUP, said speaking at a luncheon press conference on Thursday at a local hotel.

“We will show our political power at roundabout near Press Club after 33-day long journey,” Zain Shah said adding that the Long March is aimed at raising awareness among the masses regarding the grave issues faced by Sindh.

Zain Shah said that although his party is a part of anti-government Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), but the decision of Long March was taken before joining the GDA and therefore the Long March is being organized on political platform of SUP. “However, we enjoy the cooperation of other GDA member parties and like-minded organizations,” he said.

According to him, the political stability in the country could only be possible if the state organs do not transgress the constitution and would work within in the limits set in the constitution. “We have always been opposed to the Establishment’s indulgence in politics. We have been advocating that the judiciary and the accountability institutions should be free of political interference and influence.”

“The performance of National Accountability Bureau, Anti-Corruption Department and FIA could be improved if they are set free of political pressure and influence. These institutions can combat the evil of corruption if they work honestly as per their constitutional ambit,” he viewed adding that these institutions have been used for political victimization.

As regards political representation of masses in the parliament, Zain Shah said that the existing so-called democratic system cannot prove beneficial for the masses unless a transparent way is adopted for electing the truly representative people to the assemblies. “A grave situation prevails as buying and selling of assembly members has expanded now to voters. The governments have always been formed here by rigging the polls and buying the voters.”

SUP leader also talked about conducting foolproof census and urged the softening of eastern border of country like that of western border.

Zain Shah criticized the Sindh government for alleged massive corruption even in relief operations for flood-affected people.
