Turkish organizations distribute cash grants, food packages among flood-affected families in Sehwan

This is the third time relief assistance has been distributed in Sehwan with the support of the Turkish Red Crescent; earlier food packages from the German Red Cross and Non-Food Items from the Norwegian Red Cross were distributed.

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), in collaboration with the Turkish Red Crescent (TRC), distributed cash grants and food packages to 500 flood-affected families in Sehwan, District Jamshoro.

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari and the IFRC Head of Delegation (HoD) in Pakistan, Peter Ophoff, and the Head of TRC in Pakistan, Ibrahim Carlos disbursed cash grant of 5000 rupees and distributed 50 kg of food to each of 500 families.

Sehwan-Turkish-Relief- Sindh Courier-1Sehwan-Turkish-Relief- Sindh Courier-2Sardar Shahid Laghari remarked that the Pakistan Red Crescent has assisted thousands of flood-affected families, especially in places where no other organization has reached owing to lack of access, and would continue until the last victim is helped. “This is the third time relief assistance has been distributed in Sehwan with the support of the Turkish Red Crescent; earlier food packages from the German Red Cross and Non-Food Items from the Norwegian Red Cross have also been distributed in Sehwan, added Chairman PRCS,” he said.

He also said that for the past two months, PRCS has been providing more than 15000 gallons of safe drinking water daily to more than 2000 flood-affected people in the Sehwan.

Peter, the IFRC HoD in Pakistan, and two Turkish businessmen and TRC volunteers, Fatih Elmali and Tahsin Yazan, who observed the distribution, praised PRCS and stated that relief activities should be continued to support people in need. Ubaidullah Khan, Secretary General of the PRCS, thanked the Turkish people and government and praised the efforts of local volunteers.

Kanwar Waseem, Provincial Secretary of PRCS-Sindh, acknowledged the Turkish Red Crescent for assisting the flood-affected families. “More flood-afflicted people are waiting for assistance,” said Provincial Secretary. (PR)
