UNICEF-Funded Theater Project Launched In Sindh

The project aims to create awareness among flood affected communities regarding key child rights and provide Psycho Social Support through theater performance

Sukkur, Sindh

Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO), under the UNICEF-supported Integrated Services Project, has started organizing theaters in different districts of Sindh province.

As part of the project, a theater was organized at village Abdul Latif Shar, Union Council Hyndari Taluka Tharhi Mir Wah, district Khairpur.

The famous TV Comedian Sohrab Soomro and his team performed in the event and spread the key messages regarding child protection, health, nutrition, mental health, and early child marriages.

A large number of men, women and children of flood-affected villages of the Union Council attended and entrained from the theater.

UNICEF Representative Rizwan Shaikh and Sajid Leghari participated.

Thari-Mirwah-Theater-Sindh-Courier-4Speaking of the occasion, SRSO UNICEF Project Manager, Naveed Ishaque Memon told that SRSO is implementing UNICEF supported Community Engagement and Social Mobilization for Raising Community Awareness on Health, Nutrition, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and Referral Mechanisms for Integrated Services.

He added that the project is being implemented in most-flood affected 37 Union Councils of 5 districts of Sindh including Larkana, Dadu, Khairpur, Kamber-Shahdadkot and Naushahro Feroze.

He said the key objective is to sensitize, raise awareness, and mobilize flood affected communities regarding child protection, nutrition, Gender-based violence, Social and Behavioral Change Communication and mental health and develop referral mechanism for integrated services.
