Over 1200 books and cultural paintings placed in library having seating capacity of 22
Tando Jam: Shortly after establishing a unique mini urban forest and park for providing recreational facility to the citizens, Assistant Commissioner Hyderabad Taluka Ms. Qandeel Fatima Memon has now setup a Public Library, in Tando Jam.
Previously, there was no public library in Tando Jam, a highly populated town of Hyderabad district and the hub of several institutions including Sindh Agriculture University, Nuclear Institute of Agriculture, Local Government Academy, Agriculture Engineering Workshop and others.
The lady officer has utilized four shops, a government property lying unused. She has converted these shops into a library hall. “There were four shops closed and unused since long located in front of Tapedar Dera at main road of Tando Jam, which have been converted into library hall,” Ms. Qandeel Fatima told Sindh Courier.
The well-decorated library hall has seating capacity of 22 people at a time. “We will soon launch membership process to attract more and more people to this newly established library,” she told.
Ms. Qandeel Fatima said that initially the library has 1200 plus books and all are donated by different people or collected through the efforts of volunteers. “With the passage of time, the number of books will grow further.”
To a query she said the staff of Tapedar office will be the caretaker of the library.
“It is an initiative to give a platform to everyone, particularly the students to explore the world of knowledge,” Qandeel Fatima said adding that public libraries provide books and other materials for people to read as it’s not affordable for everyone to buy books and journals. “This is first ever Public Library in Tando Jam and I am sure it will inspire a large number of youths to get involved in healthy activities. Public Libraries have always seen as an educational resource for all people.”
