Speech – A Poem from Algeria

Speak, speak, repeat, and argue

We number, we weave

We sow poetry, we create, and we produce.

Speak, speak, repeat, and argue

We number, we weave

We sow poetry, we create, and we produce.

We gather the meaning of my verses and delve into them

Form and method

From each known letter, it emerges

O listener, speak, do not say “yankh”

He criticizes, he argues

Without beautiful thoughts, angry, tense.

Sometimes bright, joyful, and cheerful

Sometimes embarrassed

Sometimes angry and my mood is heavy.

Sometimes we get angry at the crookedness of people

Sometimes we are careless

Sometimes we hide what we do not want to reveal.

If you find him near you, he will be surprised

He will be surprised, he will be relieved

If he loves you, He will be kind to you

You will be like a wounded man whose blood is flowing

He will flow and scar

A healed wound, a gurgling sound

Let’s return to my words, Ali Zain, in joy

How beautiful he is, walking

I saw him, I saw him walking, swaying

His beauty captivated me, and his love ignited

My soul yearns

Who said that love is what we seek?

Craving has killed us, and my desire is burning

The fire is burning

His absence has increased my sleep

The embers are burning

The flame of my sleep

Who can bear the burden of patience?

Speak, speak, and bring news

The knowledge of the sea

Give my greetings to the one with kohl-rimmed eyes
