The construction of the Central Asia – China gas pipeline from Turkmenistan, passing through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, will be accelerated by the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the newspaper China Daily reports.

The new gas pipeline (line D) forms a single network with the existing branches A, B and C, but its capacity will be 50% higher and amount to 30 billion m³ per year, the report says. Previously, it was planned that this gas pipeline would pass through the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan, but now it will run parallel to branches A, B and C.

As soon as the new branch is put into operation, Turkmenistan undertakes to supply China not 35 billion m³, but 65 billion m³ per year.

In 2022, 42 billion m³ were supplied to China via the Central Asia – China gas pipeline and Uzbekistan receives good money from China for gas transit. Since 2012, Uzbekistan itself has been supplying China with 10 billion m³ of gas per year.

China will also accelerate the construction of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan as an alternative to the Russian Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline.
