Pesticides are becoming increasingly dangerous to the crops and living organisms, experts said at International Conference on Plant Protection.

Underlining the need of making mandatory carrying out pre-tests for ascertaining the effects and quality of agrochemicals, the national and international agricultural experts have said that pesticides are becoming increasingly dangerous to the crops and living organisms.

The experts expressed such concerns at first two-day International Conference on Plant Protection organized by the Faculty of Crop Protection at the Central Auditorium Hall of Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam on Tuesday.

SAU-Plant-Protection-Conference-Sindh-CourierVice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri in his address at inaugural session said that most of the land of Sindh is lying barren, as we have given importance to agriculture in irrigated areas from the very beginning. “Most of the barren lands are not getting fertile due to neglect. Therefore, by focusing on rain-fed agriculture, organic agricultural production can be expanded,” he viewed.

Guest of Honor and Founder Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Dr. AQ Ansari said that our farmers believe that the only solution to get rid of harmful pests and diseases in our crops is to use pesticides as they are not fully aware. “Due to the lack of testing laboratories, the effects of pesticides have not been tested, which raises many questions around the world about our country’s agricultural products and their quality,” he said.

Former Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro said that the importance of plant protection in agriculture is very important. He said that the developed countries use natural methods to eradicate harmful diseases and germs from agricultural crops. “The harmful effects of pesticides are already being studied, however, technical expertise is required in this regard among farmers and related institutions.”

The host of the conference, Dean Prof. Dr. Jan Mohammad Marri, said that the conference would focus on agricultural research through expert suggestions, and research by experts from around the world, especially in agriculture, will benefit from pests and diseases, and suggestions on temperature, climate change and the environment.

Conference Secretary Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khaskheli gave a briefing on the convening of the conference.

Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, also addressed.

Dr. Syed Asadullah Shah from Malaysia, Dr. Marshall from Netherlands, Dr. Hisham Naseeruddin from Sudan, Dr. Bhai Khan Shar, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Allah Bakhsh University Jamshoro, Noor Muhammad Baloch, DG Research, Islamuddin Rajput, Syed Nadeem Shah, Zahida Detho, experts, Farmers, a large number of students attended.

The conference was attended by online participants from Egypt, Australia, China, India, Azerbaijan, Bangkok, Malaysia and other countries of the world.
