Thousands of Sindhis from across India attended the mega event of Cheti Chand, the birthday of Lord Jhulelal, the New Sindhi Year and the 100th birth anniversary of Hemu Kalani, the teen revolutionary and martyr of Sindh, here on Friday March 31, 2023.

Bhopal-Centenary-Hemu-Kalani-Sindh-Courier-1Centenary function of Hemu Kalani and celebration of Cheti Chand, organized by Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha, was held at Bhel Dashehra Maidan, Bhopal. The Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha had scheduled this event for March 31 as the Sindhi communities were celebrating the Cheti Chand Festival and centenary programs of Shaheed Hemu Kalani locally in different cities on March 23. The Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha had launched a mass mobilization drive to gather the Sindhis in Bhopal for this historic event and in this regard its teams had held meetings with Sindhi community in various cities.

Addressing the event, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh made historic announcements that include an annual grant of Rs.50 million for Sindhu Sahitya Akademi, Madhya Pradesh.

He also declared that lessons about Sindhi Martyrs Hemu Kalani, Raja Dahirsen and Amar Shaheed Bhagat Kanwar Ram will be included in textbooks of Madhya Pradesh. “I declare that these lessons will be included in five textbooks of Madhya Pradesh”.

“The government of Madhya Pradesh will also build a museum in the memory and respect of Sindhi Martyrs while a big statue of Shaheed Hemu Kalani will be installed at Manuabhan Hill,” Shiraj Singh announced and added, “Statues of Hemu Kalani will also be erected in Indore and Jabalpur cities of the state.”

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh further announced that each Yatri (Pilgrim) of Madhya Pradesh origin or living here will be given Rs.25000/- subsidy for Sindhu Darshan Yatra held in June every year by Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha.

Bhopal-Centenary-Hemu-Kalani-Sindh-Courier-6Sindhu Darshan Yatra is held every year in June at Leh Ladakh, where one full day functions are held on the bank of River Sindhu.

Shivraj Singh said, “I proudly declare that entire Hindustan is yours (Sindhi)”.

RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat also addressed the event.

Bhopal-Centenary-Hemu-Kalani-Sindh-Courier-8Other prominent guests who attended the event included Saint Rajeshlal from Amravati, Saint Yudhishthirlal from Raipur, Saint Hareshlal from Lucknow, and saint from Harisheva Darbar, Bhilwara Rajasthan and many other saints.

The program also included the music concert. Renowned singers Mahesh Chander (Son of Master Chander), ghazal singer Ghanshyam Vaswani, Mohit Lalwani, Neel Talreja, Jatin Udasi, Manjushri Asudani, Shubham Nathani and many other new singers performed in the program and enthralled the audience.

Madam Asha Chand, Head of Sindhi Sangat, Mumbai, Shrikant Bhatia, Sindhi journalist from Delhi, Deepak Chandwani, Sindhi journalist from Bhusawal Maharashtra and others also attended the program.

The entire venue of the program was decorated with the photos of Shaheed Hemu Kalani, Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro and other martyrs of Sindh.

Bhopal-Centenary-Hemu-Kalani-Sindh-Courier-10Lunch, tea, coffee and cold drinks etc. were arranged for all participants of the mega event which started by midday and continued till night. Such a large number of Sindhis had first time gathered at one place in India.

It may be mentioned here that Madhya Pradesh, and specially the cities of Bhopal Bairagarh are home to hundreds of thousands Sindhis. Sindhi community in these cities have established a number of educational institutions including schools, colleges, medical college, hospitals and other welfare organizations.

Bhopal-Centenary-Hemu-Kalani-Sindh-Courier-11Sant Hirdaram, hailing from Bhiria city of Sahiti area of Sindh, was also settled in Bairagarh and the Madhya Pradesh government had renamed the Bairagarh city as Sant Hirdaram Nagar after the Sant Hirdaram in recognition of his services. The railways station and several institutions are also named after Sant Hirdaram.

A number of Sindhis, including me, also visited Samadhi and Mandir of Sant Hirdaram and got blessings.

Mr. Haresh Agnani, based in Vadodara (Baroda), Gujarat state of India, had especially visited the Bhopal to attend the centenary program of Shaheed Hemu Kalani. The ancestors of Mr. Haresh belonged to Bhiria city of Sindh. At the time of partition, his father had business in Karachi opposite Artillery Maidan. His maternal grandparents belonged to Dadu city of Sindh.
