Offices of 3 Transport Companies Sealed for Charging Excessive Fares

A total of 149 vehicles were checked in Karachi and Rs.469000 were refunded to the passengers

Following the directives of the Minister Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Provincial Transport Authority continued the drive against the transporters charging excessive fares on Friday, the fourth day of operation and besides imposing fines, sealed some offices of transporters and issued warnings to 16 transport companies.

Sindh Transport Authority had launched drive after receiving public complaints that the transporters were charging excessive fares from passengers on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Transporters-Campaign-Sindh-Courier-1An official handout said that Secretary, Provincial Transport Authority, Ameet Dev Narwani issued warning to 16 transport companies for charging excessive fares. He warned them not to charge access fares otherwise their route permits will be cancelled.

The transport companies AKC, Al Madina, KCS, Geo Farhan Coach Service, Umair Movers, Geo Faizan, Shalimar Express , Sitara-i- Hilal Coach, Karachi Hyderabad Van Service, Sitara-i- Hilal Terminal Service, AKG, Geo Farhan , Khan Movers, Geo Larkana were found involved in charging excessive fares from passengers.

Transporters-Campaign-Sindh-Courier-2Apart from this, Secretary Provincial Transport Authority sealed the offices of 3 transport companies in Saddar area of Karachi.

A total of 149 vehicles were checked in Karachi and Rs.469000 were refunded to the passengers.

In Naushehro Feroze , Deputy Commissioner Shahzaib Shaikh along with Secretary District Regional Transport Authority Zameer Brohi and Motorway Police imposed a fine of Rs.55,000 on the transporters charging excessive fare and refunded more than Rs.100,000 to the passengers while taking action at Moro Toll Plaza.

On Mathi Islamkot Road in Tharparkar district, Secretary District Regional Transport Authority Irfanullah imposed a fine of Rs.2500 on the transporters and refunded Rs.11500 to the passengers. (PR)
