Poem: Be the Light on My Paths

Poetry from Uzbekistan

My poem, do not fade away,

Do not die—claim eternity.

Be the light upon my paths,

Let my heart be your company.

Be the Light on My Paths

My poem, do not fade away,

Do not die—claim eternity.

Be the light upon my paths,

Let my heart be your company.

Let me open the garden of verse,

Like a nightingale, let me sing.

Let inspiration be my nest,

Filled with joy and delight.

Let me flow like a river,

Like waves, give my wings their flight.

Purely, deeply, fully drinking,

Let me string emotions like pearls.

It stretches its height toward the skies,

My poem has not yet died.

Like the fifteen-day moon,

It has not yet become full.

Give strength to the laughter,

Let them clap their hands with cheer.

At the summit of the mountain,

May they see you one day there!

My happiness

Be the cure for my ailing heart,

I wait for your path with longing deep.

My lifeblood lives on loving you,

No witness needed — my Creator knows it’s true.

I hope for only one thing from you:

I will not cast my gaze on others.

Even within the whirl of sorrowed dreams,

I’ll swim, I’ll walk — I won’t grow weary.

From my heart a sigh escapes, ah…

Why the question, why the need to ask?

Drowning in the mirror of your eyes,

Why wrap myself in scents of you?

Do not bring flowers, nor lay carpets down,

Do not crown me queen upon a throne.

My lady, let me tell you this alone:

Your very being is my happiness.

My Little One

My arms are a home for you, my child,

Your father will come — we’ll wait together.

When you are born and grow a little tall,

Your father, you, and I will climb the hills.

Across red poppies and bright tulips wide

We’ll run and play, my soul, my dear.

Your tiny, tender little hands —

We’ll kiss and kiss, never getting tired, my dear.

Even when our longing overflows,

We won’t show it — we’ll swallow it inside.

Be patient, my child, my soul, my angel,

Your father will come — together we will wait.

Your dad will come, we’ll wait as one,

We wait for the day he comes to take us home.
