Women Development Minister opens Safe House in Hyderabad; offers NGOs to join hands with her department

Hyderabad: Sindh Minister for Women Development Syeda Shehla Raza has said that for addressing the problems of female victims of domestic violence and providing them with immediate shelter and instant relief, Safe Houses would be opened in each district of the province.

Talking to media persons after inaugurating safe-house near Niaz Stadium Hyderabad on Friday, she said that in each safe house, directorate and complaint center would be established to address the problems of female victims of any violence immediately by providing free healthcare and legal aid.

She informed that MoU had been signed between Development & Empowerment Society, Pakistan (DES) and Women Development Department, Sindh in order to provide fair and speedy solutions to the problems of the female victims.

Minister said that the idea behind to set up safe house was to provide immediate shelter as earlier female victim often had to face lengthy legal process causing more vulnerability.

She invited NGOs willing to work for the welfare of women to join hands with women Development Department.

Shehla Raza informed that the Sindh Government was seriously working for development of women and had allocated sufficient budget for the Women Development Department.

She said that more staff would be recruited during current year as unfortunately due to lack of human resource many centers in the province were not working properly for last many years. “Females would be recruited more as compared to men and the trainings would also be arranged for new employees so that they could work up to the expectations of the people.”

Deputy Program Manager Irfan Rajput of Muslim Charity Fund, UK organization talking on the occasion said that there should be zero-tolerance against violence in any civilized society and for that he appreciated the initiatives of Women Development Department wherein his organization would provide aid and help for preventing violence against women.

Secretary Women Development Department Anjum Iqbal, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Fuad Gaffar Soomro, Director Mahesh Kumar and Deputy Director Ashique Kalhoro were also present on the occasion.
