Afghanistan is becoming a springboard for terrorism in Central Asia; thousands of ISIS fighters are stationed near northern borders of Afghanistan – Reports

Tashkent

A delegation from the Ministry of Border and Tribal Affairs of Afghanistan visited Uzbekistan and discussed border security issues with the Uzbek authorities.

The parties carefully discussed border issues, reports Khaama Press

The head of the border department of the Taliban ministry, Mawlawi Ghulam Nabi Samim, spoke about the problems that local residents face along the border.

“The Taliban authorities have promised their Uzbek counterparts that they will not allow rebel groups to use Afghan soil against Uzbekistan,” the report says.

Taliban officials did not provide further details about what they meant by “insurgent groups,” but several rockets have been fired at Uzbekistan over the past two years. Islamic State (ISIS) militants claimed responsibility for the attacks.

And the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has repeatedly warned that thousands of ISIS fighters are stationed near the northern borders of Afghanistan, which could pose a serious threat to the security of the Central Asian states. And the CSTO believes that Afghanistan is becoming a springboard for terrorism in Central Asia.

The current Afghan authorities have rejected such statements and called them propaganda and baseless claims aimed at denigrating Afghanistan’s relations with its neighbors.
