The electronic media including the TV channels are considered to be a strong tool of reforming the society. Most of the countries can be seem utilizing their TV channels for building a constructive society which promotes humanity and harmony among different religions and communities.
Sadly, our TV channels can be seen contrary to it, dragging our society with retrogressive force. These channels help those elements who have already damaged peace of the society, and are in the race to destroy our years’ old society laced with tolerance, peace, and humanity.
I am writing this specifically with regard to a drama that has been aired on Urdu TV Channel Geo. In drama ‘Musht-e-Khak (مشت خاک)’ , initially, it was shown that a woman opts Khula (divorce ) after knowing that his husband is an atheist, and then the court grants her application for divorce.
It is okay when two people, or either party is unwilling to live together; it is also okay that writer writes such things or court grants such application.
Also, it is justified that woman comes to know her husband’s reality of belief later on, so it can be considered as a cheat from husband’s side.
But, it is very wrong when a belief is presented as the cause of difference or problem among the couple, and on such basis, a relation is destroyed. A happy relation just needs love and understanding not their personal beliefs.
It is quite questionable what our TV channels want to promote.
