Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Department approves formation of Task Force; ongoing operation against outlaws in riverine areas reviewed

Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Department, which met on Wednesday with Ms. Faryal Talpur in the chair, decided to launch crackdown on drug traders and continue operation against outlaws in the riverine and border areas of the province.

Ms. Faryal, Chairperson of the Standing Committee, urged to ensure restoring the law and order by eliminating bandits from the riverine area and street criminals in Karachi.

“Street crimes in Karachi and other cities should be brought under control immediately,” she exhorted.

The meeting of the Standing Committee was held in the Sindh Assembly Committee Room. Provincial Ministers Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Advisor for Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Provincial Ministers Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Syed Zia Abbas, and other members including Sohail Anwar Sayal, former Law Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, Ghanwar Khan Asran, Noor Ahmed Bhurgari, Raja Razak, Shamim Mumtaz, Qasim Siraj Soomro, Sohrab Sarki, Imdad Patafi and others attended in the meeting.

Sindh-Assembly-Committee-Crimes-Sindh-Courier-1IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon gave presentation to the standing committee on the performance and comparative report of the police in the year 2022 and the current year. He briefed the standing committee on the latest situation in the province, especially in the Katcha (Riverine) areas and the ongoing operation in the border areas of the province.

Actions to control street crime and the drug trade in Karachi were discussed and it was decided that police action against drug dealers would be tough. A plan of action to curb drug use in educational institutions was also discussed and it was decided that the police would work with parents and private school association management to eliminate this business. In this regard the communication with parents and management of educational institutions will be enhanced.

The Standing Committee also approved the formation of a task force to control the menace of drugs in schools.

The Standing Committee on Home Department proposed to recruit women in various departments of the police.

IGP Sindh also said that cells have been established for the protection of women and children in twelve districts of the province.

Ms. Faryal Talpur directed to establish this cell in all the districts of the province and urged that crimes should be eradicated from the slum area.

The Standing Committee on Home Affairs also approved the Habitual Offenders Bill. (PR)
