Canal Expansion: A Betrayal of Indus
A Call for Global Attention to Sindh’s Water Rights and Civil Resistance

There is an urgent need for international human rights organizations, democratic governments, and global media outlets to pay attention to this unfolding crisis
The voice of Sindh is not asking for sympathy—it demands solidarity. The world must not remain silent while a people are robbed of their lifeline and silenced through force

The recent surge of protests in Sindh against the controversial six-canal project over the Indus River has once again exposed the deep-rooted exploitation faced by the Sindhi people. Given the appalling history of the Pakistani establishment and the duplicitous conduct of the Pakistan People’s Party—especially its current leadership—it is not far-fetched to anticipate fabricated announcements or the deployment of oppressive force aimed at crushing this legitimate resistance.
These tactics are not new. The people of Sindh have historically been met with brutal crackdowns, false narratives, and institutionalized marginalization whenever they raised their voices for fundamental rights. This is not merely a dispute over infrastructure—it is about a community’s survival, culture, and constitutional rights over its natural resources.
In response, it is essential that all sections of Sindhi society—lawyers, doctors, professionals, students, political workers, nationalist groups, civil society members, writers, and poets—forge a united front under a Save Sindh Alliance. This collective platform must be anchored in a shared charter, one that commits to defending citizens from persecution, amplifying resistance in a disciplined manner, and sustaining advocacy until justice is achieved.
However, the matter cannot remain confined within national borders. There is an urgent need for international human rights organizations, democratic governments, and global media outlets to pay attention to this unfolding crisis. The systematic denial of Sindh’s water rights, suppression of peaceful protests, and disregard for constitutional principles are matters of global concern. These are violations of basic human dignity and must be challenged through diplomatic, legal, and civil society channels worldwide.
The voice of Sindh is not asking for sympathy—it demands solidarity. The world must not remain silent while a people are robbed of their lifeline and silenced through force.
