In a distinguished ceremony organized by the International Academy of Ethics, Dr. Rana Nayar was conferred the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy, an acknowledgment of his unwavering commitment to literature and human values. The event also marked the release of ‘Epicacia,’ a profound collection of twelve epics penned by renowned poet and scholar Dr. Jernail Singh Anand.
The occasion saw an inspiring address by Dr. Rana Nayar, who expressed his humility and gratitude upon receiving the fellowship. Reflecting on his relationship with the Academy and poet Dr. Anand, he emphasized the enduring bond of ideas and poetic camaraderie they share. He praised Dr. Anand’s extraordinary literary output, which includes over 180 books of poetry, and highlighted his role as a poet-philosopher deeply engaged with universal human concerns such as good and evil, suffering, and the quest for spiritual redemption.
Dr. Nayar lauded Dr. Anand’s dedication in an era where poetry struggles to find widespread popularity amid our technologically dominated, unpoetic times. He underscored the importance of poetry as a medium that demands deep reflection and moral engagement — qualities he sees exemplified in Anand’s work. The poet-philosopher’s enduring effort to engage readers with existential questions has cemented his stature as a true global poet and humanist, the speaker affirmed.
Expressing his own life story, Dr. Nayar shared his origin from Amritsar’s business family and his steadfast choice to pursue a career in teaching—driven by a profound sense of ethics. He praised the efforts of the International Academy of Ethics in fostering a culture of ethical consciousness, especially at a time when ethical considerations are increasingly marginal in public discourse.
The event also celebrated the launch of ‘Epicacia,’ a compelling collection of 12 epic poems by Dr. Anand. Dr. Nayar lauded Anand’s ability to fuse disparate traditions, mythologies, and ethical principles into a cohesive poetic universe. According to him, Dr. Anand’s work is characterized by his mastery in blending myth, history, lyricism, and epic grandeur, which elevates the poetic landscape to new heights.
The book launch was further distinguished by the special dedication of ‘Epicacia’ to Serbia and Serbian-US poet Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic. Dr. Anand’s notable contributions to international literature—such as his honorary membership in Serbia’s Writers Association and the conferment of the Morava Award—were highlighted during the ceremony. His name has also been inscribed on the Poets’ Rock in Serbia, symbolizing his global poetic influence.
The function was presided over by S. Himmat Singh, IPS, former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, and moderated by Rupa Rao. Among those present and felicitating were scholars and literary figures including Dr. Swaraj Raj, Prof. Emeritus; Dr. Basudeb Chakraborti; Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma; Prof. Seema Jain; and Dr. Manju Chouhan.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Nayar expressed profound humility and gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him, reaffirming his resolve to continue enriching the fields of literature and ethics. He praised the efforts of the International Academy of Ethics in creating a vital ecosystem for nurturing ethical awareness and highlighted the crucial role such platforms play in sustaining humanistic values in contemporary society.
