I have two mothers,

The one which brought me to the dock.

And the other, far away,

Who beckons to me from the Poets Rock!

jernailODE TO SERBIA

Whether fertile like Punjab

Or infertile like the Arabian sand

There are lands which pull at the heart

As hard as the mother land.

Sometimes there is a mother

Who shows you the light of the day!

And a foster mother whose fingers

Shape the holy clay

The land which suckles you

Always has the honor

Of being remembered, wished for

And returned to when all is over

I have two mothers,

The one which brought me to the dock.

And the other, far away,

Who beckons to me from the Poets Rock!

The mother who did not give me birth

But loved my glowing lava,

And showered on me

Honors like the Charter of Morava.

From this land came comrades

Like the Maja of Serbia,

Friends like Dragan,

And lovers of poetry like Vidak.

How much I live in India?

As a matter of physical identification

But in essence I belong to

The Serbian Writers Association.

Parts of my existence are lying

Scattered here and there

Belgrade, Novi Sad, Mrchayevci

Gather them all if you want to meet me.

I carry in my heart the memory great

Of friends who met me as characters of Fate

Matica Srpska and its great gallery

Sava, Danube and Armageddon’s calm beauty.
