Pinky-Harwani-5Pinky, who currently resides in Mumbai, Maharashtra, has had the golden chance to work in various fields like a food company, Sunshine. As an actor, Pinky has been able to give lasting performances in movies like “Janasheen”, in the year 2003. She was also present in “Alibaba Aur 40 Chor”, acting the role of ‘Marjina’ in the year 2004. She has also been a part of the 2007 movie “Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee” and ‘3 Nights 4 Days’ in 2009. Her family background is rather rich. Her father, Mangharam Harwani, is a producer and film distributor. He has had the honor to work with the legendary ‘Dev Anand’.

As the ‘Censor Board Member’ she has the accomplishment of being the youngest member of the Board. She is also hailed to be the most stunning associate.

Pinky-Harwani-3She started off her professional career as an actress and had the chance to enjoy all the glitz and glamor of the world of acting. After having tasted the charm of that industry, she made a comeback into the entertainment industry by becoming a part of the “CBFC (Censor Board of Film Certification)” in India. She was on the panel that takes care of English and Hindi films and their certification. She had always been famous for her liberal outlook and her outspoken nature, which makes her an ideal candidate for the Board to provide some form of transparency. Pinky cites her love life and her engagement as the reason why she decided to quit acting and Bollywood.

Unfortunately, her relationship failed. It resulted in the engagement being called off. She then came to terms with her passion for the industry. She flew back to India. She claims to have learned the most important lesson of her life that she should not waste away her dreams in pursuit of any relationship. Since then she has been a career-oriented woman. She no more feels the need to be validated by other people. She does not let anybody make decisions on her behalf. She is her own person and enjoys being so. She calls herself an entrepreneur now.

Pinky-Harwani-Sep-2020-03In an interview, she was asked ‘You were based in Denmark as a foreign bank executive who had specialized in finance management. What made you decide to enter into movie-acting that too with Feroz Khan’s movie ‘Janasheen’ (2003) as second lead?’

Pinky said, ‘It was a childhood dream to be in the movies. After my initial stint in the corporate-foreign-banking industry, I decided to pursue my dream of acting with no regrets. I auditioned for Feroz Khan-Sir and got the impactful part in ‘Janasheen’.

Yes I first faced the camera for a photo-shoot and audition for Dev Anand-Sir who wanted to launch me. But at that time and rightfully so, Dev-saab felt I was too young for my launch.

Post-‘Janasheen’, I went through a disheartening phase, as I realized, that I was spending more money than I was earning in this industry. Furthermore, the roles offered were not the quality I expected. That is why I refrained from the acting space.

About her experience while being on the Advisory Panel Member of the CBFC (aka Censor Board), Pinky said, “It has been a very fulfilling experience to work with the CBFC. I have enjoyed my stint as a panel member. I have learnt that there are diverse sentiments and perspectives in a large country like India, which make it a challenging yet fascinating job. What may be acceptable in tier 1 cities may not be the same in tier 2 cities and vice-versa.”

About her radical views on the certification categories of the CBFC, Pinky said, “I feel we need to be more ‘progressive’ as opposed to being regressive, while certifying and while recommending deletions.

Besides movies and modeling, she is willing to feature in short-films, TV shows and music-videos, but it depends on the content/script being of stature and interest.

“I feel that the opportunity needs to be of a certain level of respect, to be taken on, rather than just for titillation and obscenity,” she says.

Pinky-Hawani-RitikAbout nepotism and ‘casting couch’ syndrome that prevent genuine deserving talents from getting their big-breaks in showbiz, Pinky says, “I feel if you are genuinely talented, nothing can stop you from achieving success. It is a combination of talent, perseverance and staying true to your goals and objectives. Across different spectrums of industries there are similar challenges. But it is up to your own efforts to overcome them.”

For the last four years, Pinky has been actively spreading health and wellness through promoting Japanese Kangen water ionizers made by a company called Enagic. “To boost our immunity I feel it is necessary to consume water which is full of antioxidants and is alkalized. I am thrilled to continuously expand this aspect, especially as Covid-19 has made our health a priority.  In addition to that, I am always open to continuing work with the CBFC and of course the Entertainment Media,” Pinky says.
