5th Naseem Kharal Kahani Conference held in Khairpur; awards distributed among the authors of books and best short story writers.

The speakers at 5th Naseem Kharal Kahani Conference held here Friday paid rich tributes to late Naseem Kharal and described him a social, realistic and a great story writer of the last century.

The 5th Naseem Kharal Kahani (story) Conference was organized by Shaheed Naseem Kharal Memorial Committee and Popat Publishing House Khairpur at Gymkhana Club Khairpur.

Naseem Kharal (June 29, 1939 – July 14, 1978) was a renowned Sindhi short story writer, born in Kharalabad, Khairpur District. Although a qualified lawyer, he never practiced law and stuck to his roots of agriculture. His work includes Pahrein Murad, Kafir, and 34 dar. His published books are Shabnam Shabnam Kanwal Kanwal (1966), Akhyoon Arsiyoon (1968), Khirnda Khatinhar, Chotihoon Dar (1973) and Dummy. He was murdered on July 14, 1978.

Naseem Kharal Conference - Sindh CourierSecretary General, Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Taj Joyo, while delivering the presidential address at the “5th Naseem Kharal Kahani” Conference, said that the “Kahani conference” is a good tradition that has been held continuously for five years. “It encourages young writers to give best stories to the society.”

He advised the members of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat to hold special literary meetings, in which lectures on the art of story writing should be delivered.

He also said that no literature is international until it is deep rooted in its homeland and language.

Addressing the conference, Dr. Adal Soomro said that Naseem Kharal immortalized the story by writing heroic stories in the urban and rural background.

Another writer Mumtaz Bukhari said that Naseem Kharal rescued the Sindhi story from ending in the last century and his thirty two stories are the gifts for Sindhi literature.

Poet Gul Badan Javed Mirza said that Naseem Kharal was a great story writer and told that Sindhi Adabi Board will publish the PhD thesis on Naseem Kharal in a book form, written by Ibrahim Kharal.

Qurban Mangi said that Naseem Kharal’s language was vibrant with the culture of Sindh and has a unique beauty.

Writer Manzoor Baidar said that the stories of the youth are the best continuation, but they should consciously refrain from distorting the language.

Naseem Kharal Conference - Sindh Courier-1The ceremony was addressed by Dr. Mahar Khadim, Azhar Noonari, Noor Junejo, Rozina Junejo and others.

While in the second session of the conference, Azhar Noonari, Muhammad Din Rajari, Yar Muhammad Chandio, Hasib Kanhio, Zahid Bhutto, Fauzia Siyal, Nisha Kanwal, Yusuf Jamil Leghari, Mir Taqi Abbas Talpur, Rahimdad Jogi, Faqir Phulio, Zahid Rahujo, Noor Channa, Ghafar Soomro and others presented their stories.

According to the decision of the jury members present in the ceremony, the first award for the best story was given to Fauzia Siyal, the second award was given to Azhar Noonari and the third award to Mir Taqi Abbas Talpur.

Naseem Kharal Conference - Sindh Courier-2Secretary General Sindhi Adabi Sanghat Taj Joy gave the Naseem Kharal Award to Mumtaz Bukhari for writing a book about Naseem Kharal and to Ibrahim Kharal for writing a PhD thesis on Naseem Kharal.

During the conference, the book written by the novelist Mumtaz Bukhari about Naseem Khral was launched.

Conference passed a resolution demanding that the historical logo of the Sindhi Adabi Board should to be restored.

A large number of writers from Hyderabad, Sukkur, Daharki, Larkana and other cities participated in the conference.
