WB Delegation meets Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh to discuss matters related to supply of cheap solar power to the people

Karachi

A delegation led by the Country Director of the World Bank Naji Ben Hassine met the Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh on Thursday and discussed the issues related to cheap electricity and solar energy in the province.

It was decided in the meeting with the World Bank delegation that 200, 000 (Two hundred thousand) solar systems will be provided under the project at a subsidized rate.

“The project will cover whole of Sindh instead of ten districts as had been planned previously,” the meeting decided, according to an official handout.

Minister Imtiaz Sheikh said that the meeting with the WB delegation further decided that 160 US dollars for rural areas and 110 dollars for urban areas per Solar Unit / per house subsidy will be provided.

The WB delegation expressed satisfaction with the pace of ongoing projects in the energy sector in Sindh. The meeting was attended by Energy Secretary Sindh Abu Bakar Madani and Sindh Solar Project PD Qazi Mehfoz. (PR)
