Government of Sindh plans to conduct door-to-door social registration through polio workers, through which special social registration number will be issued to all persons across the province.

The plan was discussed in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah at Sindh Secretariat on Monday, attended by Secretary Social Welfare Abdul Waheed Shaikh, Secretary Health Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Secretary Implementation & Coordination Riaz Hussain Soomro, Representative of Provincial EOC and other officers.

Briefing the meeting, the officials said that a door-to-door registration campaign would be launched through the polio workers in the province. During the campaign the polio workers would collect information from the public through a close-ended questionnaire and after this a special social registration number will be issued to all persons.

Chief Secretary said that the government was planning to prepare a database on the socio-economic condition of the people of the province. “During the Corona virus epidemic, the government of Sindh felt the need for a registration number to provide direct relief to the people that would enable efficient and transparent delivery of government relief,” he said.

He further said that Sindh Cabinet had approved Rs.350 million for social registration campaign. “After getting information through door-to-door campaign by polio workers, a database of this information would be created at the provincial level,” he elaborated.

It was further informed that a successful pilot project of Social Registry has been completed in 12 Union Councils of Karachi.

Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah directed officers concerned that an effective awareness campaign should be launched on media before the registry campaign. He further said that special training would be provided to all polio workers for this campaign. (PR)
