Sindh will now produce mango twice a year
Horticulture Research Wing of Sindh Agriculture Department conducts successful experiment
Experiments on Australian and Thai mango varieties were carried out at Mirpurkhas Horticulture Research Farm

The horticulture research wing of Sindh Agriculture Department has carried out a successful experiment of producing the mangoes twice a year.
According to an official handout issued on Sunday, the Horticulture Research Wing of Sindh Agriculture Department undertook the experiment on four varieties of mango at its research farm in Mirpurkhas. As a result of successful experiments, the mango will now be available whole the year.
“Mango varieties, one each from Australia and Thailand were grown on a single mango tree,” Director General, Research, Noor Muhammad Baloch said. Thailand’s mango variety Nam Dok Mai was among the varieties experimented by the research wing.
Baloch said, “Sindh used to produce mango in summer every year but now it can also be produced in winters. A hybrid mango variety named as Sada Bahar will bear fruit in January and June also while the other one Mehran will yield the mango in June and November every year.”
DG, Horticulture Research, claimed that each mango will be weighing over one kilogram.
He said that 156 mango trees have been grown at Mirpurkhas Horticulture Research Farm where 92 mango varieties have been prepared during last seven years. (PR)
