The 3-day scientific conference dedicated to the emerging trends in engineering technology, which concluded on May 11, 2023 at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development (BBSUTSD) has recommended that the engineering technology programs should be given statutory status for appointment in government and private sector.

“The engineering technology graduates are not given due share in job opportunities, therefore the international conference recommended that engineering technology programs should be given statutory status for appointment in government and private sector,” Professor Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Vice Chancellor, BBSUTSD, said while talking to Sindh Courier on Saturday.

Stating that 1st International Multidisciplinary Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering Technology-2023 (1st IMCEET-2023) holds immense significance, Mr. Mahar shared other recommendations which urged that the skill development and training must be essential part of our education system.

The conference also urged that municipal solid waste can be used for generation of renewable energy. “In terms of utilization of different waste sources for generation of renewable energy, the awareness of people is a key factor,” he told.

“Pakistan is known as agriculture country and lots of agriculture and dairy waste is being generated which can be utilized as a source of energy in environment sustainable conditions,” conference suggested according to him.

Phase Change Materials (PCM) thermal insulation materials are useable to maintain the temperature in Highrise buildings

The conference further suggested that to introduce the sustainability in plastic industry, the plastic material should be designed with zero/lowest Carbon Footprint Product (CFP) to meet the challenges of climate change. “We must design the plastic materials which are technically competitive, financially feasible and socially acceptable for meeting the environmental and legislative challenges,“ he told adding that it will help to use local resources and generate the jobs/business opportunity locally.

The conference further recommended using the agricultural waste in concrete, which could give the viable solution for the sustainable construction. “The Phase Change Materials (PCM) thermal insulation materials are useable to maintain the temperature in Highrise buildings while Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is suitable for sustainable concrete constructions.”

Banana leaves were also recommended as cementation material for concrete.

As regards Artificial Intelligence (AI), the conference recommended that it should be used in healthcare discipline, educational system, industry and Green Internet of Things (Green-IoT) in environment changes scenarios in Pakistan.

Considering the recent floods, it was recommended for the irrigation department and National Highway Authority to build well-designed bridges that could sustain the flood experienced during the flood in 2022.

The conference noted that food requirement may increase by 2035 therefore precautionary measures may be adopted for high efficiency irrigation system.

In project planning, a reduction in project duration through efficient scheduling and increased resource allocation may come at the cost of the environment and society. Therefore, an integrated framework for Multimode Resource Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (MRCPSP) model has been proposed. This model can be a useful addition to the project management body of knowledge to foster sustainable thinking in construction design and management.

Climate change is one of the greatest multifarious concerns and universal threat to the natural environment and societies the world has ever experienced. The response to climate change involves a two split approach either by reducing emissions or and stabilizing the levels of heat trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is called mitigation or by adapting to the climate change known as adaptation.

The accurate navigation in urban contexts has always been a challenging task due to significant occurrence of signal blockage and contamination of multi path and Non-Line of Sight (NLoS) signal receptions. The machine learning systems has been proposed as new horizons for improvement of navigation systems with accuracy and reliability in the challenging environment.

The area of Assistive Technology in one of the areas which is most neglected in the researcher communities in the world in general and Pakistan in particular. Globally, more than 2.5 billion people need assistive products for their daily routine life. Ultimately, additive manufacturing has the potential to make assistive devices more accessible and affordable to people who due to cost barriers.

He said that the above recommendations have been sent to Provincial as well as Federal government and hoped that both governments will enforce the recommendations made by the 106 Scholars hailing from Malaysia, America, China, and Turkey for the promotion of the engineering Technology.
