Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, organizes a vibrant two-day Sports Fest

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, organized a vibrant two-day Sports Fest at the PCB Ground, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a celebration of energy, teamwork, and academic unity.
The event featured a variety of games for two days including Cricket, Badminton, Chess, and Ludo, promoting not only physical activity but also mental agility, collaboration, and the spirit of healthy competition.
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, Pro Vice Chancellor Thatta Campus, Prof. Dr. Misbah Qureshi, and Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Naheed Kaka, as well as faculty members, staff, and students of the department.
In his welcome address, Dr. Abdul Razaque Channa, Chairman, briefed on the department’s growing role in linking academic excellence with social engagement, emphasizing ongoing collaborations, research initiatives, and student-led community projects.
Dr. Channa highlighted that sports and academic activities go hand-in-hand in shaping well-rounded individuals, noting that anthropology encourages understanding of human connection, cooperation, and empathy—values also reflected on the sports field.
Dr. Channa thanked Mr. Ajved Bhatti, Director Sports, and faculty members of the department, including Dr.Suneel Kumar, Coordinator of the Fest, Dr. Muhabat Shah, Dr. Dr. Rafique Wassam, Mr. Manik Mustafa Shar, Madam Zahida and Madam Quratulain.
During the ceremony, trophies and medals were distributed among the winning and runner-up teams. Cricket Tournament: Won by Rehman Kalhoro’s team (First Year), followed by Irshad Jamali’s team (Second Year) as runners-up. Men’s Badminton: Winners – Sheera and Tahir; Runners-up – Rizwan and Laraib. Women’s Badminton: Winners – Savera and Saira; Runners-up – Dur-e-Shahwar and Kaneez Fatima.All Chess and Ludo players received medals in recognition of their enthusiastic participation.
While addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri appreciated the dedication of the faculty, whose qualifications and international academic exposure have positioned the department as one of the most promising at the University of Sindh. Dr. Marri remarked that such sports festivals are vital for promoting mental health, discipline, and teamwork, underscoring that “a sound mind flourishes in a sound body.” He also drew attention to the importance of university services such as 1122 emergency response and 1124 telemedicine, encouraging students to stay aware and make use of these facilities for their well-being.
Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri also emphasized that culture and heritage are Sindh’s greatest treasures, rooted in its rich and diverse history. He highlighted that Anthropology and Archaeology hold a vital role in preserving and promoting Sindh’s cultural and historical legacy, as the Indus Civilization itself flourished on this very land. He remarked that anthropologists and archaeologists are the true guardians of this civilization, its culture, and its enduring heritage.
Prof. Dr. Naheed Kaka, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Misbah Qureshi, Pro Vice Chancellor, Thatta Campus, also congratulated the organizing team and commended the students for their discipline, sportsmanship, and collective spirit.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and refreshments for all attendees. The Sports Fest 2025 stood as a symbol of unity, growth, and enthusiasm — embodying the belief that academic brilliance and physical vitality together pave the way for holistic education and human development.
