An evoked envy – A Poem from Nepal

I envied the stillness, the final rest,
To be free of the world, and truly be blessed.

An evoked envy
I watched the person laying in the coffin,
His body in a sound sleep,
Or was it restless!
He was gathering courage maybe,
Eyes closed yet open within,
For a better journey,
To the better world.
It looked like the body could still awake suddenly
And call whoever was around.
But the silence concluded as a welcome,
A sacred hush in the air,
And the only movement,
The dance of light, a prayer.
As the mourners offered solace,
And their tears began to cease,
A knowing filled the space,
A promise of inner peace,
Although unknown but guaranteed,
I envied the stillness, the final rest,
To be free of the world, and truly be blessed.
For in this tranquil passage,
The soul had found its flight,
Released from earthly burdens,
Bathed in eternal light.
