Moon Sang Geum, a poetess from Korea, the land of Morning Calm, shares her poem about a woman
Ms. Moon Sang Geum, born in Seogwipo , Jeju Island in 1966, began writing at an early age. She graduated from the Department of Korean Literature at Jeju National University. In 1991, she received the first Jeju New Writer’s Award, followed by the New Writer’s Award from Simsang Literature Magazine in 1992. Over her career, she has published eight poetry collections, beginning with Winter Tree in 1995. Her literary contributions have been widely recognized, earning her numerous awards, including the Seogwipo Literary Award in 2014. She held various leadership roles in the literary community, including serving as president of the Seogwipo Writers’ Association. She is currently the vice president of Jeju PEN. Her serialized works include Jeju Essay in Jeju Shinmun, Appreciation of the Heart Poems in Seogwipo Shinmun, Paintings of Artist Byeon Si-ji and Poetry by Mun Sang-geum on Seogwipo Broadcasting TV, and Poems in the pasture in Newsline Jeju.
Jeju Narcissus
A white winter woman
Untouched by bees and butterflies,
Like a snowflake,
Blooming gently.
That graceful figure,
That beautiful flower,
Blooming with all its might,
For itself alone.
