“Currently, there are 100 FCPS doctors in the hospital, while 570 more doctors will be added,” Cyber Knife Department Professor Dr. Tariq Mahmood said in a detailed briefing on the performance of the Cyber Knife Department during a visit of Sindh government spokespersons Sumita Afzal Syed and Ghanwar Isran on Wednesday January 22, 2025.
He said that $140 million has been collected with the help of benefactors. “A seven-story medical tower will be built in Jinnah Hospital by removing the old emergency wards, and more than 500 beds will be added,” he said.
He said that Jinnah Hospital was involved in court cases since 2011, due to which a stay order was imposed on recruitment, and added that the hospital currently has 1498 employees and the court has allowed 2225 more recruitments.
Dr. Tariq Masood said that cancer treatment is being done here free of cost through modern technology. “Some 45% of patients are from Sindh, while patients from other provinces and more than 14 countries also come to the Cyber Knife Center of Jinnah Hospital for treatment. Today a patient from South Africa has also been admitted,” he said.
In addition to Cyber Knife, there is also a pet-scan and tomotherapy facility here.
Professor Dr. Tariq Mahmood later told the media that Cyber Knife has the potential to provide 100 percent treatment for brain cancer and prostate cancer, while 35 percent of oral cancer cases are being registered here.
He said that the Sindh government is providing the best free treatment to cancer patients in all hospitals of Sindh. He added that a seven-story medical tower is being built and there will be no old building in Jinnah Hospital in the next three years.
