Translated by Ma Yongbo

Longing to Wander with the Waves on Gulangyu

Longing to wander with the waves on Gulangyu

Tasting the sea surf atop the Drum-Beating Rock

Embracing the morning sun from the summit of Sunlight Rock

Amid the music and birdsong, beholding

The raiment of dreams, the fragrance of poetry

At last I wander with the waves on Gulangyu

Stepping into time’s old lanes to read the vicissitudes of years

Sorrow drifts away on the tide, hope rolls in with the sea

In this haven of ease, the wanderer pines no more for home

Life is no longer an airtight net

_____

Cloud and Rosy Hues

Amid the mountains lies a cloud of rosy glow

Like camellias in my dream

When spring’s breath sweeps across

Tender buds sprout from the cloud

Upon the treetop blooms a wildflower

Like radiance deep in your heart

When summer’s soft light brushes by

The wildflower fades quietly

Not only the rosy cloud

Not only the wildflower

A skylark trills aloud

This is its poetic speech

____

The End

The end is an enigma

The idle chaos of the cosmos

Veiling the faint lovers’ silhouette in night

The end is a dream

Desperate bewilderment amid longing

Shaping the emotional aura of the day

The end is a star

Futile remorse amid nuclear fusion

Evaporating the passion of a midnight parting kiss

The end is an enigma

A dream

The end is a star
